Rockstar didn't give us Trailer 3 this week. It gave us something the culture can actually play right now: a full album, built for Vice City, with Travis Scott on the first single and Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel behind the boards.
## What dropped On Thursday, Sept. 17, Rockstar Games and Atlantic Records announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, 34 original songs arriving Nov. 19, the same day the game does. Six singles went live immediately. Travis Scott's "RHYNO," produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, is the one this audience clicked first. Yung Lean's "That's It" carries Future and Metro Boomin. The rest of the opening wave, per Consequence: a CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso / PinkPantheress / Fred again.. / Étienne de Crécy team-up called "Sexy Magic," Morgan Wallen's "Last Thing You Need," Rauw Alejandro's "Macacoa 2000," and Keith Richards on "Bright Lights, Big City." Twenty-eight more titles are still sealed.
## Why Travis at the front Travis has been in the GTA orbit since the Cactus Jack radio station chatter, and this makes it official: the biggest rapper-in-a-video-game moment since Lil Wayne walked into Fortnite. Complex notes the Daft Punk connection is not a sample flip. Guy-Manuel produced the record. Travis has also said the song was tracked at "the Jack of Hearts," an in-game venue, which GTA BOOM flags as fuel for NPC-cameo speculation. Speculation is the word; nothing about an in-game appearance is confirmed.
## The vinyl already sold out Physical pre-orders opened the same morning: a $19.98 CD, a $49.98 splatter vinyl, and a $124.98 liquid-filled limited edition that TechRadar reports was gone within the day. Retailer-exclusive colorways sit at Blood Records, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target and Urban Outfitters. Spotify is running GTA VI billboards in New York, LA and Miami. This is a sneaker-drop rollout applied to a record, down to the colorway exclusives.
## The quiet part GTA BOOM reports Atlantic spent roughly two years on this with Rockstar and nothing leaked. In a year where the game's own gameplay hit the internet from a warehouse in Brazil, the label kept 34 songs under wraps. That's the most Rockstar thing about the whole announcement.
## The read Rockstar has always treated radio as world-building. GTA IV gave us a Hot 97 you could drive to; San Andreas was a 1992 mixtape with a map. This is the first time the label side is the product, and it comes with a Black superstar at the front, a French house legend producing, and a vinyl market that cleared it in hours. The game is 60 days out and the culture is already on the soundtrack. That's where the money is, and for once Rockstar is letting the artists collect it with them.
