TGS at 30. Five Days. 759 Exhibitors. Xbox Opens It Thursday at 3 a.m. PT.

The biggest Tokyo Game Show ever runs Sept. 17-21 at Makuhari Messe. Xbox's broadcast leads with Modern Warfare 4 and Minecraft Dungeons II; Sony, Capcom, Sega, Square and Konami fill the floor. Nintendo, as always, stays home.

Tokyo Game Show is the one industry event that never got smaller. This year it's the biggest it's ever been: five days for the first time, September 17 through 21 at Makuhari Messe, with 759 exhibitors for the 30th anniversary. Business days are Wednesday and Thursday; the public gets Friday through Sunday. VGC and Gematsu have the exhibitor list.

Xbox goes first

The only confirmed first-party broadcast is Microsoft's. Xbox Wire announced on September 9 that the Xbox TGS Broadcast airs Thursday, September 17 at 7 p.m. JST, which is 3 a.m. Pacific and 6 a.m. Eastern. About 50 minutes, hosted by Misuzu Araki, on the TGS, Xbox and Xbox Japan YouTube channels plus Twitch.

The two named headliners are Minecraft Dungeons II, making its show-floor debut ahead of a day-one Game Pass launch on September 29, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer, playable at the show through Xbox's partnership with Happinet before the October 23 launch. There's a FanFest Tokyo watch party the same night with Araki and Larry Hryb. Pure Xbox has the rundown. Anything about Death Stranding 2 or other PlayStation ports showing up on Xbox is fan speculation until the stream says otherwise.

The floor

Sony Interactive is exhibiting. So are Sega/Atlus with Stranger Than Heaven, Persona 4 Revival, Crazy Taxi World Tour, Metaphor: ReFantazio on Switch 2 and Sonic Racing CrossWorlds; Konami with Silent Hill: Townfall, Castlevania: Belmont's Curse and Suikoden STAR LEAP; and Square Enix, Capcom, Bandai Namco, Koei Tecmo, Game Freak, LEVEL-5, Nexon and Pocketpair. Konami's official lineup is already posted. Nintendo isn't there, because Nintendo is never there.

For the people who care about hardware, there's a 30th Anniversary Ticket that comes with a gold medal engraved with game art, which is the most Japanese collectible of the year.

Why it matters over here

TGS is where the Japanese publishers show what they're actually shipping in 2027, and the last two years of Western showcases have been mostly GTA 6 counter-programming. Silent Hill: Townfall and Persona 4 Revival are the two games most likely to get real dates this week. Xbox is spending money in Japan for the first time in a while, which tells you where it thinks the next console war is being fought. And Modern Warfare 4 going hands-on in Tokyo five weeks before launch is the kind of confidence Activision only shows when the beta went well.

Set an alarm for 3 a.m. Thursday, or don't. The clips will be everywhere by breakfast.
