Nobody Wants the Halftime Stage?

A Daily Mail source says Roc Nation is 'having a hard time locking anyone down' for February's show at SoFi, with Jay-Z himself floated as a fallback. Read the sourcing before you believe the panic.

This is a single-source tabloid report, so treat it like one. It also fits every other headline about the NFL this month, which is why it's traveling.

## The report On Sept. 18, per HotNewHipHop summarizing a Daily Mail exclusive, a source close to Jay-Z and the league said Roc Nation is "having a hard time locking anyone down" for Super Bowl LXI, Feb. 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium. Organizers reportedly wanted a name by the end of September; the announcement could now slip to November. The same source floated Jay-Z performing himself, with friends, as a fallback. Yahoo adds that Justin Bieber and Harry Styles are high on a wish list but hadn't been approached and are considered unlikely.

The NFL has not confirmed any of it. Neither has Roc Nation. Every line above traces back to one anonymous source.

## Why it's believable anyway Two deterrents get named. Bad Bunny's 2026 halftime became a political target from the White House down. Then came this month's Macklemore situation: dropped from Ed Sheeran's Gillette Stadium dates, with Robert Kraft personally confirming he barred him. If you're an A-list artist watching that, the halftime stage looks less like a career peak and more like a loyalty test with 120 million witnesses and, per HNHH, no appearance fee.

## Roc Nation's position Roc Nation has run halftime talent since the 2019 NFL partnership. The run includes Shakira and J.Lo, The Weeknd, the Dre and Snoop LA show, Rihanna, Usher, Kendrick and Bad Bunny. If the pipeline is stalling, it's stalling at the exact moment Jay is the most visible he's been in years, with an HBO docuseries airing and Kaepernick rapping at Yankee Stadium about the deal that started all this.

## The read The interesting version of this story isn't "Jay might perform." It's that the halftime show, the biggest promotional slot in American entertainment, may have become a liability for the artists who'd normally fight for it. A Black-run agency built the modern halftime into a cultural event; if the artists are now weighing the politics before the platform, that's a bigger structural shift than one booking. Until the league or Roc says something on the record, though, file it under reported, not confirmed.
