Four and a half months after the June reveal, Sony is ready to take your money for the first God of War that doesn't hand Kratos the controller. Pre-orders for God of War Laufey go live Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 10:00am local time. The game is still dated for Feb. 16, 2027, PS5 only.
## What dropped @PlayStation posted the breakdown on PlayStation.Blog Monday morning. It was written by Grace Orlady, Santa Monica Studio's communications director. There are two ways in: a Standard Edition (physical and digital) and a Digital Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe has no physical version.
Pre-order bonus (any edition): - Last Wish Armor Set - Golden Leaves appearance for Phranque (cosmetic) - In-game resource pack
Digital Deluxe Edition: - Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Blade, Bow Scales and Catalyst - In-game resource pack - Digital mini artbook - Official digital soundtrack
The gear unlocks through story progression, so nothing is handed to you at the start. Physical buyers get the bonus through a download code. Sony's post didn't list prices. GameSpot and others report the Deluxe at $79.99. Treat that as reported until the PS Store listing goes live Tuesday.

## The bow is the real news The editions are marketing. The combat detail is what matters. Faye's new weapon, the Serpent Bow, has two modes tied to how far you pull the trigger:
- Full-aim (precision): more range and tighter aim. You can hit specific body parts to slow an enemy or stop it from striking. Charging stacks up to five arrows for one volley.
- Half-aim (hip-fire): a mobile stance that fires a cluster of arrows at close range. It's built to juggle enemies in the air and extend combos.
Stack that on Phranque, the cosmic-cube companion that launches enemies skyward, and you can see the loop: throw them up, hold them there. Arrow types (rapid fire, explosive, multi-target) and swappable Scales change both how the bow looks and what it does. Blade, Scales and Catalyst slots mean Faye's build carries weight in a way Kratos's axe-and-blades setup never did. GamingBolt has the same rundown.

If you missed the June reveal, here's the gameplay that set this up:
## The take We said in June that Laufey was the rare $70 exclusive willing to take a risk: a dead character brought back as the lead, and the combat philosophy flipped. Monday's post backs that up. A bow-first, build-heavy moveset is not a Kratos reskin. Santa Monica put the weapon's mechanics in front of the loyalty perks, which suggests they know what the doubters want to see.
The timing is smart too. Laufey lands in February, far from the GTA VI blast radius, with a clear lane to be the first big PlayStation exclusive of 2027. The one knock: there's no physical Deluxe or collector's edition yet. Collectors in the comments are already asking for one.
